Galena, IL is 30 minutes west, and offers another option to spend a day with their historic main street full of numerous restaurants and shops. If you're not a wine fan, check out one of the micro-breweries located nearby! In nearby Galena, there's the Galena Brewing Company which offers a variety of brews, food, and live music! Make a day of it by checking out Blaum Bros Distilling Company. In the opposite direction you'll find Generations Brewing Company as well as Lena Brewing Company and Wishful Acres Farm & Brewery.

One of our favorite things to do in the tri-state area is visit the numerous wineries located nearby. Within 30 minutes in either direction, you will find many winery's and vineyards among the beautiful rolling hills of the tri-state. These wineries include:

There is endless opportunity for outdoor activities near Highview Country Escape. As mentioned to the left, there are many state park options for hiking, fishing, and kayaking. The Galena River flows right by downtown Galena and is also another great kayaking and fishing option.
The Jane Adams Trail is a 13 mile biking trail which starts outside of Freeport, Illinois and stretches to the Illinois-Wisconsin border where it then becomes the Badger State Trail.
One of the best ways to take full advantage of the views of the tri-state area, is to visit one of the nearby state parks. The nearest parks include Apple Canyon State Park which is full of hiking options, a river for fishing, and grills to cook out. Lake Le-Aqua-Na State park is also a short 15 minute drive and has a lake for boating as well as walking paths and hiking. If you're up for a bit of drive (30+ minutes), Mississippi Palisades State Park is the largest park in the area with beautiful bluffs and trails along the Mississippi river.
If you're in the mood for boating, kayaking, fishing, or beaching it, check out one of the local lakes including Apple Canyon Lake, Lake Le-Aqua-Na, or Lake Carroll. Just make sure to research beforehand in regards to quest policies.
Want to get out on the green? There are many local golf courses (and even mini golf for those not quite up to par). The nearest golf course is Black Hawk Run right in Stockton and offers 18 holes as well as delicious food and drink. Nearby, there is also Woodbine Bend Golf Course & Restaurant, Apple Canyon Lake Golf Course, Stagecoach Golf Course and Wolf Hollow Golf Course in Lena, IL , Eagle Ridge Golf Courses near Galena, IL, and Park Hills Golf Course in Freeport, IL.

One of our family favorites is located 25 miles away from Highview Country Escape. Chestnut Mountain Ski Resort is located right along the Mississippi river with outstanding views and ski hills for all levels. During the summer, they have many activities as well, including a zip-line and an alpine slide.
Want to bring your snowmobiles along? The Illinois trails come through our property and can take you all around Northern Illinois.
